Aqualipo is the same as minilipo, Water Lipo or Water Assisted Lipo. It is the liposuction of only one region, that can be performed under local anesthesia. The local anesthetic, as well as any common medication, has a toxic threshold. Therefore, its use is only possible for small regions. In larger cases, another type of anesthesia such as sedation, epidural or spinal or general anesthesia should be associated.
1. What type of anesthesia is used for Aqualipo?
We can choose local anesthesia alone or local anesthesia combined with sedation. A medication is applied so the patient can sleep quietly. Subsequently, we performed local anesthesia so that there was no pain. For small regions, Aqualipo can be performed in medical offices or clinics; but in this case, sedation cannot be performed. The patient will feel the first infiltrations of anesthetic to the region until it becomes fully anesthetized.
2. Who are the best patients for Aqualipo?
They are those with small deposits of localized fat. Patients who have tried other ways to eliminate these “flabs”, but were unsuccessful.
3. What are the scars?
The Hidrolipo, just like liposuction or liposculpture, is performed through small incisions in the skin. The resulting scar is about 1 to 2 cm, and are located in areas that are easily covered by ordinary clothes.
4. When will the stitches be removed?
For this type of surgery we use absorbable sutures, that is, wires that are degraded by the body after a few weeks. Thus, the stitches do not need to be removed, they will disappear by themselves.
5. Is the surgery very painful?
As the Aqualipo is performed only in small portions of the body contour, it does not hurt. The patient may present discomfort in the region in the first two days; however, this nuisance is easily eliminated with the use of common painkillers.
6. Does the incision get very swollen and purple?
In the first five days, edema (swelling) and ecchymosis (purple) may be present. But, this will depend on how each patient responds to surgery.
7. How long does the surgery last?
It depends much on the extent of the areas to be treated. Usually, it ranges from 30 minutes to 1 hour.
8. Is lymphatic massage necessary?
The massages are very important. The first massage is performed about 4 days after surgery. They help in the early reduction of swelling and scar remodeling. We recommend the execution of at least 10 sessions to be carried out on alternate days for a period of 30 days.
9. Do I have to use compression garments after surgery?
Yes, the use of compression garments should be carried out for 30 days.
