It is the plastic surgery that corrects protruding ears.
1. From which age can otoplasty be done?
Between 5 to 7 years of age, the ear is almost entirely formed. So, it can be recommended from that age.
2. What type of anesthesia is used for otoplasty?
In most cases, we choose local anesthesia and sedation. A medication is applied so the patient can sleep quietly. Subsequently, we performed local anesthesia in the area.
3. When will the stitches be removed?
For this type of surgery we use absorbable sutures, that is, wires that are degraded by the body after a few weeks. Thus, the stitches do not need to be removed, they will disappear by themselves.
4. Is the scar is very apparent?
No. Incisions for otoplasty are carried out in the back of the ears. Therefore, the resulting scars will be completely hidden in the crease behind the ear.
5. How long will I need the headband for?
The compressive ears band is recommended for 15 days. It is very important during those days so that healing occurs with the ears in the correct position.
6. Is the surgery very painful?
This surgery does not usually present pain. If the patient complains of pain in the early days, it is usually quite tolerable. We prescribe simple analgesics that patients can take at home prophylactically, that is, before they feel any discomfort.
7. Does the incision get very swollen and purple?
In the first 5 days, edema (swelling) and ecchymosis (purple) may be present. But, this will depend on how each patient responds to surgery.
8. How long does the surgery last?
From 1 to 2 hours.
9.How long will I need to stay in hospital?
From 8 to 12 hours.
